About two years ago I was doing some work in a coffee shop near my house. I overheard some guys at a table near me about a gig they had coming up, and so being interested in music and music production I asked them about their band. It turns out that this band had a few singers, a guitar player and two guys who “played” laptop computer using Ableton Live software. I didn’t get a chance to hear their band live, but I was intrigued by the fact that they could use a sequencing software in a live setting like that!
Ableton Live is a popular DAW software that is unique and offers a lot of power to the user. Artists such as Kid Beyond take advantage of the stability, , and it’s looping power to create entire songs by themselves.
Check it out:
So, embarked upon a seven day challenge to learn how to use Ableton Live. You can download the full version and use it free for 30 days. And you can activate a free 30 day membership to VTC.com, and access their Ableton Live tutorials (among MANY other software tutorials).
Here are my video blog entries from my Learn Ableton Live in a Week Challenge.
And though I’m no Kid Beyond …. Ableton Live is now a viable creative and technical resource in my studio.

Park Peters is a notable audio engineer in the Denver area with credits including Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Rob Mullins and Tom Wasinger.
Park provides a segment on how overdubs used to be done ( …. without headphones!) and how we can take advantage of this technique today!
Thanks Park!
This week I’m delighted to have the help of Chris Bishop as a co-host and co-engineer for the creative experiments! Thanks for your help Chris!

Creative Prodution History:
George Martin and The Beatles are truly champions for creativite production! George Martin and Paul McCarntey describe the creative process that went into recording “A Day in a Life” in this video clip:
