In the quest for creating new and interesting sounds, I wanted to figure out how I could run my audio/MIDI tracks through a virtual synth, and use the effects to creatively alter the sound. It took some time, but I have it figured out and wanted to share the secrets!
If you own the Moog Modular (version 2.8+) or download the free demo, you can try this!
I don’t know that I have very usable results yet with the patches I’ve designed and the sound sources I’ve tried them with, but I can hear the potential. And it sure is fun experimenting with this!
Hi, have you managed to get this to work with Modular V version 3? I can run it with v.2.8, but can’t access the plug-in as an Audio FX in the v.3. Any ideas? Thanks for the earlier tips.
Dave, Did you make sure the track is a stereo track? I don’t have version 3 yet. But with 2, the FX version is only available for stereo tracks, not on mono. In Logic; send the output to a stereo aux bus. For example.
Hello Pete, thank you for your reply, but I don’t think its anything to do with having a stereo track. As far as I can see Modular V version 3 consists of just one plug-in “Modular V3” (as it appears in the Logic Pro X’s Plug-In Manager window). Modular V version 2.8 has two plug-ins “Modular V” and “Modular V effect”, appearing in the Plug-In Manager window. It would seem I need a “Modular V3 effect” plug-in, but I don’t know where to find this.
I downloaded the demo of v3, after you left your comment. And I see what you mean. Do you use them as an insert effect very often? I’d be curious to learn/hear how you use them that way. I added a comment and question to an Arturia thread, on this topic. Let’s see if the moderator offers a comment, and answer to this. http://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=87556.0
Hi, I came in at V3 so I haven’t used the Modular for effects at all yet, but there is a project I am working for which I am keen to see if I can actively utilise the Modular’s filters. Thanks for “taking up the baton”. Will keep an eye on the Arturia thread.
The plugin still allows for external input. So, it seems like you can have it as a virtual instrument insert, and patch in the external audio from the source you want to filter. I will try when I have a minute.
Thanks for reply Pete. I’ve revisited the instrument and still can’t see how to do it. I had no problem getting V2 to work. I’ll be interested to see what you come up with.
