ARTURIA virtual semi-modular synth.

Download the free demo here:   https://www.arturia.com/products/analog-classics/arp2600v

It has a built in step sequencer, a built in sample and hold unit, and it can use sound from your DAW (vocals, synth, drums … any audio track).

I wanted to figure out how to use these features.     Here are my findings:

Though my demo is in Logic Pro, many or all of these features can be integrated into other software.

This is so cool.

So, I had this idea this morning, and have spent hours creating and exploring the possibilities!

My thoughts were:

  1.  I want to experiment with an old, analog step sequencer.
  2. I don’t own one
  3. How can I use Logic Pro in order to accomplish the types of things I want to experiment with?

I’m sure you can do similar things with other DAWs.

You have got to hear this!

If after the intro you get the general idea, you’re welcome to fast-forward to the 7:45 mark to hear the fully modified template.

New Virtual B-3 from Arturia, Review

Hey Guys,

I’m a Hammond owner, love them!    When it comes to using my laptop and a MIDI rig for Hammond emulation, I’m always checking out the strengths and weaknesses of virtual Hammonds and Leslies.

I’ll do a quick review of the Arturia, and then let you hear a comparison of:

Arturia, Native Instruments B4, VB3 from GSI, eBay Sample Set, Logic’s EVB3, and the real thing.

First off, as I’m typing this the download is showing my that Arturia’s B3 is a 363 MB download, which looks promising!   It might involve samples !!      When the .zip file unpacks, it’s 650 MB !!

The tone quality of the eBay samples (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ijimbgiq1-E) is great.   But the Leslie speed is fixed, so you can’t have it speed up or slow down, which is imperative for the way I play.

It sound like the Leslie feature of the Arturia was never properly working in this video.   I apologize about that.   I don’t know what was going on with it.    FYI – when I make screen capture videos, I cannot hear the audio from my computer.     So I am unaware of such things until I play back the video file.      But I think you still get the general idea of the Arturia B3 from this video.

Multi-Instruments in Logic Pro (Omnisphere)

In past versions of Logic, with the way Multi instruments were designed to be used, I did not find them helpful.   But the recent updates and upgrades have been much more practical for my work flow!   Now I’m allowed me to insert MIDI data on each voice of the multi, which I could not seem to do in past versions.   Now it allows me to use the Multi in a number of ways.

This video shares tips, and shows the routing for Omnisphere in Logic Pro X as a Multi instrument.   The principles can be applied to many other Multi instruments (EXS24,  Drum Kit Designer, Massive, Battery, others).

Analog Synths and a DAW – Creative Connections

Love the sound of analog synths?   Me too.

Love the flexibility and recall of digital?   Me too.

Here are some ways to combine an analog synth with a computer environment.

DSCN3247.JPG

Get additional oscillators into your Minilogue!!      Connect your minilogue and use it as a modular system in your computer!

You’ll need either a 5 pin MIDI to USB, or a USB cable to connect the Minilogue to your computer.

Download drivers, and firmware updates   http://www.korg.com/us/support/download/product/0/544/

Correction in the video!   I said that for your MIDI tracks in your DAW, use the MIDI OUT option (you’ll see in the video what I mean).   When in fact you’ll need to use the MIDI SOUND option provided by the driver.

Music Promotion; it can be a visual thing

To increase your plays, exposure, and sales (perhaps)   try creating a music video.     It doesn’t have to be high budget.

I would never have heard of the band Ok Go, if it were not for there amazingly creative videos.      I would not have found them on Soundcloud or any other audio website.    But on social media, people share videos 100 times more often than they will share an audio file.     Videos are appreciated in social media communities, where shared audio content is usually rejected and brings negative reactions.

It’s obviously a video generation!   Which is not necessarily a negative thing;  it can be an opportunity!   If you can get over the learning curve of creating videos, this could be a wonderful thing for your music!

Here’s a Playlist I created of all the videos below,   so if you want to watch all of them you can.        What would you add to this list??

It can be high on the creative factor and get views/listens!

Another one from OK GO,  because it’s one of my favorites.

Apparently, this has been around for a few months, but I am just finding out about it.  Maybe I’m not alone in my obliviousness ?

For licensed users of Sylenth 1, there is a free 64 bit upgrade !!  There is no longer a need for a solution like 32 Lives (a plugin that allows your 64 bit host to run 32 bit plugins).

I hit some snags trying to upgrade, so let me talk you through a successful path for upgrade.

To upgrade you can take one of two paths:

1.    use the Sylenth/Menu/Look for Upgrades function..   That will give you a download and install that request a 16 digit serial code.

2.   Alternatively you can just fill in the form at

https://www.lennardigital.com/support/requestlicense.php

The e-mail they send will contain both a product download link and license details.

FYI   Sylenth has a Facebook Page that has a healthy conversation thread about this, as well as a good overview of this beta product.

In case you missed the crucial detail,  you can request your license here:  https://www.lennardigital.com/support/requestlicense.php

That URL will take you here ..

A few minutes later I received my 16 digit code

Copy/paste your code into the box

Done!!

No need for this ever again!

I think the best place to look for FAQ information (Windows, AAX, etc)  is in the Facebook discussion thread about this release.
